About this Episode and Guest Ron Fossum:
Ron is another amazing story of what life can be like when you take ownership of your life. Having been born in Alaska and a graduate of the University of Wyoming, Ron started out his career at a grocery store. Early on in his grocery career, he blew out a disk in his back and it was clear he was going to need to make a change.
From there, he got started in the insurance world. He loved the model the insurance opportunity offered, but he always wanted more. From there, his journey to him solving one personal issue after another. All of the knowledge and expertise he accumulated was a result of solving a personal or family need.
The start of his company “Smart Money Financial Group” is rooted in an issue he noticed with his father’s investments in mutual funds. No matter if the mutual funds made or lost money, his father still got taxed. He thought there had to be a better way. That led to learning as much as he could and becoming knowledgable with taxes. From there he wanted to look for better investing options than the traditional stock market route.
Some of the other investment options Ron and his clients invest in:
- Web Properties
- Oil and Gas
- Real Estate

In addition, Ron and his partners own numerous business and place effective teams to operate them. One of the company he owns a minority stake in is a collections company that was nominated for a Nobel Prize in 2014.
